It’s the recurring dilemma of oral sex: is it better to swallow or spit out semen? Sure, there are many men who can’t get enough of their lover’s love juice. But there are also risks, especially when it comes to hot adventures with partners you don’t know very well, or at least not very well. If you’re wondering whether to swallow or spit, read our article, which gives you all the important information on the subject.

Why semen is more than just reproductive material

In the LGBTQIA+ community, there are many men who are very keen on their lover’s hot love juice. Where does this passion for male ejaculate come from? Many men see swallowing semen as a way to get especially close to their partner, to become “one” with them, so to speak. Those who answer ‘swallow’ to the question “swallow or spit” either want to be especially close to their partner or simply enjoy the taste of semen.

Incidentally, this passion for semen also affects behavior during anal sex. Quite a few want their partner to come inside them without a condom. For the recipient, it is a very special experience to feel their partner climax inside them and not have to worry about pulling out their best piece in time before the “shot.”

Important note: You should be cautious around so-called “pozzers” or “gift givers.” These are people who are HIV-positive or HIV-negative and are essentially trying to infect themselves or deliberately transmit the virus to others. Be alert if, for example, you are HIV-positive yourself and an unknown sex partner is overly interested in whether you are below the detection limit and, if not, asks you to have unprotected sex with him and come in his mouth or ass.

Swallow or spit out semen – swallow or spit?

What do you do when a guy ejaculates in your mouth? It’s an age-old dilemma – and there’s no easy answer. Of course, it makes a difference how well you know the guy. An anonymous “blowjob date” is different from your boyfriend or husband. But communication and a little planning can help you navigate any sticky situation.

Even if you find talking about sex embarrassing (especially at first), talk openly about your preferences beforehand. If you’re the one ejaculating, ask your partner if it’s okay to cum in their mouth and give them a little warning: “Hey, I’m about to cum!” Then you give them the choice of whether they want to spit it out or swallow it. If you’d rather spit it out or don’t want him to come in your mouth at all, tell him that too. That way, you’ll both know from the start what’s okay and what’s a no-go.

Whatever you decide together, if you’re expecting a “larger amount,” the old Boy Scout motto applies: always be prepared. Think in advance about what you want to do with this “load” and make the appropriate arrangements. If you plan to spit it out, have tissues or a towel ready. If you want to swallow it, have a glass of water handy.

What to do if you accidentally swallow?

Unfortunately, there are always situations where you find yourself having fun with a large group of hot men, for example at a sex party. In the heat of the moment (perhaps due to alcohol or drug consumption), you swallow someone else’s semen, whose health status you don’t know. If this happens, you should first rinse your mouth thoroughly and then get tested for STIs by a doctor. You may also want to consider starting post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), which should be done within 24 to 72 hours after contact.

Condoms are the best protection against STIs

The safest option is, of course, to use condoms, and this also applies to oral sex. Although the risk of HIV is considered very low with oral sex, many other sexually transmitted infections can be easily transmitted during a blowjob. If you or your partner have a known STI, you should not engage in unprotected oral sex under any circumstances.

Swallow or spit?

If your partner is healthy, swallowing semen can offer a number of benefits: semen contains a variety of valuable components such as proteins, minerals, and hormones. These include zinc, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B12, and spermidine, a cell-protecting molecule that may slow down the aging process. Some also attribute mood-enhancing effects to ejaculate, as it contains substances such as dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and even oxytocin, which can promote well-being. There is also evidence of an antibacterial effect that could contribute to oral health in the short term. However, in practice, the “healthy” nutritional value is usually only present in homeopathic amounts. There is currently no evidence of any noticeable bioactive effects with regular consumption.

There is one key point that speaks against swallowing semen: you can become infected with sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, HPV, chlamydia, or gonorrhea. This is possible if the semen of an HIV-infected partner whose viral load is above the detection limit enters your mouth and comes into contact with your mucous membranes. Safe sex is highly recommended, especially with new or unknown sexual partners. Even if you are in a monogamous relationship, it is worth getting tested regularly to be on the safe side.

Sometimes allergic reactions to components of semen can occur, such as prostate-specific antigens. Such allergies are rare, but can cause very unpleasant symptoms such as redness, itching, or even nausea. If neither you nor your partner have any allergies, you are free to decide whether swallowing or spitting is the right solution for you.

All a matter of taste?

And last but not least, taste plays a major role: many people find semen salty, slightly woody, or metallic. However, you can significantly influence the taste through diet, alcohol consumption, or cigarettes. Fruits such as pineapple, a healthy lifestyle, water consumption, or spices such as cardamom or fenugreek are said to soften the taste or make it sweeter. Spitting or swallowing is therefore also a matter of personal taste.

What should you keep in mind?

First of all, there is your partner’s health. Only if your partner has no known sexually transmitted diseases is the risk of contracting an illness by swallowing semen minimal. If you are unsure, it is better to practice safer sex first. Simply use a condom during oral sex. Allergies manifest themselves through unusual reactions. If you experience such reactions, talk to a doctor.

One of the most important prerequisites for fear-free and enjoyable semen play is open communication between you and your partner. Only when communication between you works and you can talk to him about it will nothing stand in the way of hot fun with swallowing or spitting. To positively influence the taste of your/his semen, you should pay attention to your diet and hygiene. A conscious diet can have a positive effect on the taste, but also on the consistency of the semen.

Conclusion: Swallow or spit out semen should be a personal decision

Whether you want to swallow semen is entirely up to you. You are the one who decides, no one else should pressure you. Although the health effects are minimal, when it comes to bodily fluids such as semen or frequently changing partners, it is better to be cautious. If you decide to do it, do it consciously. The most important thing is that you feel safe doing it. Of course, when it comes to swallowing or spitting, it’s best to approach it slowly. Just try your own semen first, then you’ll get a first impression of the flavor and really get a taste for it.
